Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Senior Associate, is Phd. In Law, Advocate Supreme Court, and former Member National Commission for Women.
Counsel for the Union of India in the Supreme Court she is only advocate to have been honoured by SCBA for her writing 10 times (2004-09, and 2011,12, 14 &19). MA Sociology, PG Diplomas in Intellectual Property Rights Law from Indian Law Institute; and Human Rights & International Humanitarian and Refugee Laws, and International Environmental Law from Society of International Law; she has attended session on Public International Law at Hague Academy of International Law, Netherlands. Presiding Arbitrator in the Power sector and Eminent jurist, on number of a committees, and also former Director, Delhi Gymkhana Club.
Dr. Charu WaliKhanna started her career in the world of advertising with a Diploma from Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai. Having achieved success at an early age, and disturbed by the violence and inequalities in society, as lawyer she advanced the cause of vulnerable and marginalized sections of society. Founded Social Action Forum for Manav Adhikar (SAFMA) a NGO with Special Consultative status of the ECOSOC of the United Nations. Having expertise on Intellectual Property Rights of craftspersons and holders of traditional knowledge, she has been focusing on the protection of their intellectual property rights. Dr Charu WaliKhanna presented a Draft Bill at the 29th INDIAN FOLKLORE CONGRESS and NATIONAL SEMINAR organized by the Centre of Cultural and Creative Studies, NEHU, Shillong, MEGHALAYA. She is one of the few advocates in India, who is actively engaged in economically empowering traditional craftspersons, by integrating them into the modern economic system and enhancing their market negotiating power; through registration under the Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration And Protection) Act 1999.
Author of number of papers & publications her recent ones include STUDY FOR NHRC “Status and Functioning of Local Complaints Committees under The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and awareness levels among women in the work force; Sita Returns: Modern India Through Her Eyes; Sex & Harassment; Married But not Legally Wed; among others. Amid the COVID lockdown, she launched YouTube channel 'Parenting Tips with Charu' with aim of establishing good relations between Parents & Adolescents, and encouraging open communication, the channel even addresses sensitive subjects of sexuality.
